META tag generator

Create META tags in seconds

You can create META tags using my free, simple generator tool below. META tags are not magic and you most likely won't get top search engine results from using them alone, but they do help search engines to determine what your page is about so can help your rankings. You should use META tags along with other search engine optimisation techniques.

I recommend that you don't over repeat the same words in any given field as this could have a negative effect. If you are unsure about what to put in your META tags, then you can easily view the source of our pages for an example. I have provided a short description of each to help you. You can leave any field blank of you wish and the tag will not be generated.

Page Title

Text that you want to appear in the title bar of web browsers. This is also used as the link text in search engines and a good title will help you to get a better ranking if done effectively. Make sure that you include some keywords that relate to the content of your page.

Description

The description should preferably be different for each page on your web site - this should be a couple of sentences. Many search engines will show this alongside your link in their results.

Abstract

This should be a short sentence about your page. Most search engines don't use this, but some do. I would recommend using this tag as some search engines do use it.

Classification

Sometimes used by search engines to put your web site into the right category. If you are unsure about what to put here, then I suggest you go to dmoz.org and see what category your web site fits into.

Author

This simply gives credit to whoever created the page.

Copyright

Copyright info for your page. An example would be 'BELLonline 2006' or 'John Smith 2006'.

Robots

Tells search engines whether they should index the page or not, and whether to follow links on the page.

Keywords

The keywords tag is no longer used by the larger search engines so is pretty much considered useless. I personally do still use it as it could have an effect on smaller search engines. This doesn't need to be more than about 10 words/search terms. Comma seperated.
